Zelman Symphony's first program in The Year of the Violin
Zelman Symphony’s first concert features Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s Artistic Director, Sophie Rowell, performing Bruch’s beloved First Violin Concerto. Sophie is the former leader of the Australian String Quartet and was until recently co-concertmaster of the MSO.
The concert commences with Leonore Overture no. 3 to Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio. This is the heroic and dramatic Beethoven at his best.
The concert concludes with Schumann’s final and best loved symphony, the Rhenish, presenting a gloriously romantic picture of the magnificent river Rhine.
